Heading one of Sri Lanka’s pioneering and premier educational institutions, The National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) is daunting task in itself.
As its Director General, Dr. Dr. D M A Kulasooriya holds overall responsibility with his team of Directors and Heads of Business Units for managing and expanding academic paths and continuing the affiliations with three global universities; Coventry University UK, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Malaysia and Universiti Technologi Malaysia (UTM).
While the overall management and direction of the institute and its courses operate at optimum efficiency under his guidance and directorship, Dr. Kulasooriya is passionately dedicated to another vital area of student education – the building of the country’s future leadership. His key focus is on inspirational leadership training among his Gen Z students who form the majority of NIBM’s student population.
The current Gen Z and the next Gen Alpha are his canvas as he applies his ocean of knowledge and experience and his compelling passion in creating good leaders to shape the future of our next generation.
Identifying his method and style of leadership training as “Leadership by Design”, Dr. Kulasooriya spoke to BMD on his theories, methods and experiences of building leadership for the future generation among his students…
“Designers change the whole world with their new concepts which they turn into new creations and make the whole world change their lifestyle in tandem with their new creations,” he observed. We draw an example from this life phenomenon and use it as a management tool in building leading courses.
